This is more or less the same as the previous single, but otherwise, still pretty serviceable.

Well it is Jamey Jasta we're talking about. It's not like Webster, Barrett and Rutan are writing these songs, we're basically getting his interpretation of death metal so it was never going to be mind blowing by any means.

So it looks like the album leaked early on YouTube. Did listened to it briefly, but I don't want to listen to it too much so as to prevent any spoilers early on until the album officially dropped. I'll put a link to the video down below if anyone's interested.

Shorter then I expected. I thought it'd be at least 40 minutes.

Cover art isn’t very promising. You’re not Meatloaf, dude.

5 min in it does remind of Hatebreed. Was ok, was a quick listen.

Off topic but who are the oldest death metal musicians/bands, those actually relatively close to death?

Looks more like he's themed around Nathan Explosion from Metalocalypse (who in turn is based on Corpsegrinder).

Considering Meatloaf didn't write his own music either, that's actually a great comparison.

I don’t believe it gets added until it’s street date which is the 25th.

You do know the Corpsegrinder on the site is a completely different band from this right?

I would say Possessed.

Jeff Beccerra (b.1968) is actually far from being the oldest guy in death metal, as he was still very young at the time Seven Churches was released. In fact he isn't even the oldest current member of Possessed as the bass player Robert Cardenas is born in 1967.

Some I could think off the top of my head and checked their DOB's here on the archives are:

Karl Sanders (b.1963)
Paul Speckmann (b.1963)
Mike Browning (b.1964)
David Vincent (b.1965)
Trey Azagthoth (b.1965)
Piotr Wiwczarek (b.1965)
Kam Lee (b.1966)
Martin van Drunen (b.1966)

and there sure must be quite a lot of other guys around born in 1967-1968.

edit: did some more search, and found one that could be hard to beat: Danny Coralles of Autopsy is born in 1960.

I tried to add it but it got rejected since the album wasn't released yet. I checked again and someone else submitted it.

As far as I'm aware, Wolfgang Teske (1953-2010) is the oldest guy to ever play in a death metal band (Defeated Sanity, for those unaware).

My mistake, I read the question as who was oldest (as in first) death metal band.

I had no idea Karl Sanders was so old. That's crazy. That means he was 31 when Nile released their first demo and 35 when they released their debut album. That's got to be some kind of record in itself.

He might be old, but that definitely didn't stop him from making such brutal, technical marvels Encyclopaedia Metallum: The Metal Archives • View topic (57)

Didn't know about him, that's quite impressive. That said, he may have been the oldest while he was alive, but right now we have at least a handful of people active in death metal bands that are older than him at his time.

I actually enjoyed this album far more than I expected I would. It#s a solid 7/10 for me.
And I can only imagine how people would react if SFU released an album that felt this sharp and hungry.

What I like is how seamless and authentic the hardcore elements feel - it reminds me of something you'd see coming from Albany or Baltimore in the mid to late 90s, rather than just a half-hearted Xibalba/Fuming Mouth wannabe.

The album is much more enjoyable than anything CC has released in a long time.

Still no word on who the musicians are performing on it?

I know Erik Rutan is on the first song.

And as for what I think, this kinda sucks. I've heard worse death metal but it's very Hatebreed-like, which I don't like. I hope this is just for Corpsegrinder's solo stuff, and doesn't leak into CC.

According to m-a:

George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher: Vocals
Erik Rutan: Guitars (track 1)
Charlie Bellmore: Guitars, Bass
Nick Bellmore: Drums

I'm not aware of any other guests.

He, Chief Spires and Pete Hammoura had a thrash metal band prior to Nile, though, and it was founded on 1983, so he was playing for quite some time before founding his current band.
Still, was a late bloomer to success on the scene, i guess.

Since Fisher is basically writting zero Cannibal Corpse material and zero Corpsegrinder material, I wouldn't be too concerned about this.
