Posted down in Haas too..................

2004 VF2. Interior light. Bulb is a capsule style CFL Panasonic EFT28E28. 28W. 120V. Is there an equivalent out there? LED maybe? If I go with an off the shelf LED, would it stand up to the vibrations and the environment of the interior of the machine? Needs to be more of an industrial bulb? TIA

I am pretty sure you can just use any 'rough service' bulbs. If you go to Haas they want double or triple what you will pay at a hardware store or whatnot. I don't have a brand for you, but we (a couple jobs ago) replaced our yellow dull bulbs with some off the shelf stuff. Sorry I don't have specifics for you...

I hate the bulbs in the VF-6SS, far too dim, and Haas can't seem to fix our high intensity lights when the doors open. Have to turn them on manually. Funny about this thread though, I just brought this up with the boss when I came in today: replacing them with halogens or LED strips... something! Anything!

Cheapo LED floodlights work great in machine enclosures. I have two 10W IP67 leds in one of my machining centres, it's the best lit enclosure in the shop. They cost me about £15 ($20-something) each on ebay. Been working perfectly in there for coming on two years. I pulled the little transformer out of them and mounted them on a din rail in the cabinet, and ran the low voltage DC around the enclosure. I wired them into an auxiliary the main e-stop contactor because that machine has no software control of the lights. Lights are on when the machine is on, off when it's off.

Did you try searching McMaster-Carr for the bulb since you know the trade name?

The ones that came in our machine (2007) were horrible. Way too orange and not bright enough.

I replaced ours with some CFL's from Home Depot about a year ago that were the whitest and brightest I could find with an equivalent wattage rating. Don't remember the P/N offhand, but they're still going strong.

I know this is an old thread but here goes anyway. My 2004 VF2 has high intensity halogens that point down on the vise and turn on when the doors fully open. These work fine. Also in both upper corners of the enclosure are the two lights you guys are discussing. I have never seen these lights come on with my mill. I have replaced the bulbs. ZIP. I know there is a switch on the back side of the control panel. I have always left it on. Are these lights software controlled or something? Just curious, it would be nice to be able to see in there?

We have a 2012 machine, and the inside lights are controlled by a button switch on the righthand side of the control near the USB. I'm not sure what the 2004 outlay was like though.

Oh and we have replaced our crappy CFL bulb setup with 100 watt LED's. It's like damn daylight in there now and the halogens are never used anymore.

I found a 110 outlet on the back of the machine that had a GFI. Rest that and I am good to go. WE HAVE LIGHT!
